The Heart of EYM Formation
At its core, EYM formation follows the pattern of the Road to Emmaus. It begins by listening to where young people actually are in their lives. It moves into proclamation and reflection on the Gospel. It centers the Eucharist as the place where Christ is truly encountered. And it ends by sending young people outward in concrete mission.
The inner logic can be summed up simply: Gospel → Eucharist → Mission. The pastoral method for leading young people through that journey is just as simple: Listen → Teach → Send. The Eucharistic encounter stands at the heart of the whole movement – it is what makes the teaching real and not merely theoretical.
EYM formation is not just instruction, and it is not just youth activity with religious language sprinkled on top. It is a Christ-centered process of listening, catechesis, Eucharistic encounter, moral conversion, and missionary charity. Doctrine and experience are not opposed here – rather, doctrine is placed within a contemplative and sacramental context so that truth is not just heard but genuinely received, adored, and lived.
