Saint of the Day: Saint George

Biography
Saint George was a Roman soldier and a Christian martyr who lived in the early centuries of the Church. He served in the Roman army but remained faithful to Christ during a time of persecution. When ordered to renounce his faith, George refused, choosing instead to stand firm in his love for Jesus.

Because of his courage, he suffered greatly and was eventually martyred. His witness inspired many others to remain faithful, even in the face of death. Over time, devotion to Saint George spread throughout the world, and he became one of the most venerated saints in Christianity.

He is often depicted as a knight slaying a dragon, a symbol of the victory of good over evil and faith over fear.

Saint George is the patron saint of soldiers, England, and many countries and cities. His story of the dragon is symbolic of overcoming evil through faith in God.

Prayer
O Saint George,
brave soldier and faithful martyr,
you remained steadfast in your love for Christ.

Help us to stand firm in our faith,
to face trials with courage,
and to trust in God above all things.

Pray for us, that we may overcome fear and temptation
and live as true witnesses of Christ in the world.

Amen.
