Servant of Charity and Education
On April 10, the Church honors Magdalene of Canossa, a woman of noble birth who chose a life of humility, charity, and service to the poor.
Her Life
Saint Magdalene of Canossa was born in 1774 in Verona, into a wealthy and aristocratic family. Despite her privileged upbringing, she felt a deep call from God to dedicate her life to serving those in need.
From a young age, Magdalene experienced personal hardships, including the loss of her father and struggles within her family. These trials strengthened her faith and deepened her desire to trust completely in God.
A Heart for the Poor
Moved by love for Christ and compassion for the poor, Magdalene left behind her comfortable life to serve the most vulnerable.

Foundress of a Religious Community
Saint Magdalene founded the Daughters of Charity (Canossian Sisters), a religious congregation dedicated to education, catechesis, and service.
Her work later expanded to include the Canossian Fathers, continuing her mission of spreading the Gospel through charity and teaching.
