Saint of the Day: St. Joseph

Feast of Saint Joseph

Today the Church honors Saint Joseph, the chaste spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the foster father of Our Lord Jesus Christ—a man chosen by God for one of the greatest missions in salvation history.

Saint Joseph was a humble carpenter, yet he was entrusted with guarding the mystery of the Incarnation. In silence and obedience, he accepted God’s will, even when it was difficult or beyond understanding. When the angel appeared to him in a dream, Joseph did not hesitate—he rose and did as the Lord commanded.

He protected the Holy Family, leading them to safety during the flight into Egypt, working with his hands to provide for them, and raising Jesus in faith, discipline, and love. Though the Gospel records no spoken words of Saint Joseph, his actions speak with powerful clarity: a life of trust, humility, purity, and faithful service.

Saint Joseph is honored as:

  • Patron of the Universal Church
  • Terror of demons
  • Protector of families
  • Model of workers
  • Guardian of a happy death

In a world full of noise, Saint Joseph teaches us the strength of silence, the beauty of obedience, and the dignity of daily work offered to God.

A Traditional Reflection

God entrusted to Saint Joseph what He held most precious on earth: Jesus and Mary.
If God placed such confidence in him, how much more should we trust in his powerful intercession.

Prayer to Saint Joseph

O glorious Saint Joseph,
faithful guardian of Jesus and Mary,
obtain for us a heart pure and obedient to God’s will.
Protect our families, guide our work,
and defend us from all evil.

Teach us to live in humility and silence,
and to serve God with faithful love each day.
Pray for us now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
