CV NEWS FEED // The Senate Foreign Relations Committee is scheduled to vote at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, on the confirmation of CatholicVote President Brian Burch as the next US ambassador to the Holy See.
If approved by the committee, Burch’s nomination will advance to the full Senate. Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., would then need to file a cloture motion to end debate before the final vote.
Under typical Senate procedure, the final vote could occur approximately two hours after cloture is invoked. Burch might be sworn in on the same day.
CatholicVote previously reported that the ambassadorial post to the Holy See has remained vacant during a period of significant transition for the global Catholic Church. The role is considered vital given the potential impact of US-Vatican relations on religious freedom and global human rights.
