GoFundMe pulls fundraiser for woman who attacked pro-life journalist

CV NEWS FEED // Brianna Rivers, the woman who punched pro-life activist Savannah Craven Antao during a man-on-the-street interview on camera, had her GoFundMe page removed after raising over $8,000 for her legal defense.

Christian Post reported that a GoFundMe spokesperson said Rivers violated the platform’s terms of service, and the platform has reimbursed everyone who had donated. The spokesperson did not specify which terms of service Rivers violated.

GoFundMe’s terms of service include a section that states users may not fundraise for “the legal defense of financial and violent crimes, including those related to money laundering, murder, robbery, assault, battery, sex crimes or crimes against minors.”

As CatholicVote previously reported, police arrested Rivers on April 10 on a charge of second-degree assault. Rivers had raised $8,695 on GoFundMe according to some reports, Christian Post added.

When her fundraiser was removed, Rivers posted on Facebook, “Savannah has had her Klan get together and report my go fund me page after being half way to my goal. I’ve lost my job and am now facing legal issues which the funding is all in support of.”

Rivers added that Antao was “stalking” her social media accounts, claiming she was antagonizing and harassing her.

Rivers also started a GiveSendGo page to raise money for legal defenses.

Antao took screenshots of Rivers’ two fundraisers and stated that they were against the websites’ guidelines, encouraging people to report the fundraisers.
