CV NEWS FEED // A professor from Christendom College has written a book defending maligned Catholic figures from history, including Marie Antoinette, Christopher Columbus, and Pope Pius IX.
Steve Weidenkopf wrote Canceled: Twelve Catholic Heroes That History Turned Into Villains as a challenge to modern misconceptions about these figures, according to Christendom College’s website.
The book was published March 20 by Catholic Answers Press.
“In Canceled, he [Weidenkopf] presents twelve faithful — though imperfect — Catholics who have been ‘canceled’ by the modern world, their lives distorted or dismissed by critics both outside and within the Church,” Christendon’s website states. “With careful research and accessible prose, Weidenkopf reveals how these figures have been maligned and misrepresented, and why their stories matter now more than ever.”
Weidenkopf, who teaches graduate theology at Christendom, has authored several other books, including Light from Darkness, The Church and the Middle Ages, Timeless: A History of the Catholic Church, and The Real Story of Catholic History: Answering Twenty Centuries of Anti-Catholic Myth.
