CV NEWS FEED // A new documentary produced by the Diocese of Springfield, Illinois, highlights inspiring stories of everyday Catholics and extraordinary events unfolding across the American Midwest.
In the hour-long documentary God is Alive, Part II, former TV personality Andrew Hansen joins Illinois pastor Father Michael Trummer — who filmed the documentary with their phones and two cameras — to bring viewers to Gower, Missouri, and three Illinois locations: Edwardsville, Ashland, and Chicago.
“We want to take viewers on an authentic and raw journey with us as we traveled in the Midwest,” Hansen said, “so it’s our hope that intimacy makes viewers connect more with the stories.”
The series began in 2024 with Part I, featuring miraculous events and faith stories from central Illinois.
Part II tells the story of Sister Wilhelmina, the first American to be declared incorruptible.
It also spotlights the stories of three Catholics who found hope in God after experiencing intense suffering. One woman survived rape, abuse, and neglect, and through Christ’s grace forgave her abusers. Another young girl was cured after experiencing multiple life-threatening health crises, including kidney failure. One family experienced a tragic loss that led to conversion.
“It’s so easy to fall into despair, become angry at God, or think miracles can’t happen when life has you down,” Hansen said in an emailed diocesan press release. “This documentary shows miracles can happen, and if you truly allow God into your life, especially during times of tragedy and heartache, God will show you He is alive, and He will do things you least expect.”
