CV NEWS FEED // The Diocese of Raleigh, North Carolina, is supporting Catholic students at North Carolina State University by helping purchase a student center for the campus’ Catholic ministry.
The new home, called the Doggett Center, will serve as a location for service, study, prayer and social events, the Diocese reports. Before acquiring the home, priests heard confessions in busy hallways and offered Mass in the campus student center.
The Diocese offered the campus ministry $1 million through two grants to purchase the $2.25 million home, which is within a mile of the campus. Donations, pledge payments, and an interest-free Horne Loan from the diocese, which pledge commitments will cover, provided the rest of the funding.
The campus ministry offers support for Catholic students at the university through the Sacraments, Bible studies, service opportunities, retreats, and the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA.)
“We are absolutely thrilled to have a safe space where students will be able to shrug off the stress of classes and worries of outside life and breathe, rest, relax and recharge,” the ministry’s website states. “It will be a haven where they can pray, chat, play, laugh and grow in faith and fellowship.”
