500 Missionaries of Mercy from around the world set to celebrate their Jubilee at Vatican

CV NEWS FEED // In observance of the Holy Year dedicated to hope, the Missionaries of Mercy this month are set to celebrate their Jubilee at the Vatican, which will welcome hundreds of priests from around the world, including the United States, Poland, Brazil, and Spain.

According to a March 26 article from Vatican News, Pope Francis instituted the Missionaries’ special ministry during the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy with the Bull of Indiction in 2015. The Missionaries have special authority to forgive sins usually reserved for the Apostolic See.

The Jubilee of the Missionaries of Mercy will be marked by an international conference beginning March 28 at the Vatican. The theme of the conference is “Forgiveness as a Source of Hope.” Organized by the Dicastery for Evangelization, the biennial conference will be split into theological and pastoral sessions.

Vatican News reports that later in the day, the Missionaries will participate in “24 Hours for the Lord” focused on the Sacrament of Reconciliation, consistent with Pope Francis’ 2013 Lenten initiative of prayer and reconciliation.

The Missionaries will also be able to walk in the pilgrimage to the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica.

On the concluding day of the conference, March 30, the Missionaries and the public are welcome to enjoy a free symphonic concert, “Missa Papae Francisci,” which Vatican News described as part of the “Jubilee is Culture” series.

The concert will be performed by the Roma Sinfonietta Orchestra, the New Lyrical Sinfonic Choir of Rome and the “Claudio Casini” Choir from the University of Rome Tor Vergata.
