CV NEWS FEED // Pope Francis made it through the night without requiring mechanical ventilation, a sign of progress in his recovery from a respiratory infection, according to an update the Vatican released the evening of March 18.
The Holy Father remains under medical supervision at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, where he has been receiving treatment since Feb. 14 for bilateral pneumonia.
His overall condition remains “stable within a complex clinical framework,” with small but noticeable improvements in both his breathing and mobility.
The Pope’s reliance on respiratory support, including non-invasive ventilation at night and high-flow oxygen therapy during the day, has been gradually decreasing.
“While this is a positive development, it should be viewed with caution as part of a gradual reduction process,” the Holy See Press Office reported, according to Vatican News.
Throughout the day, Pope Francis continued his prescribed treatments, prayed, and completed light work. His diet has also been adjusted to include solid food.
