CatholicVote launches petition to stop ‘black mass’ at Kansas Capitol

CV NEWS FEED // CatholicVote has launched a petition demanding the cancellation of a so-called “black mass” scheduled to take place at the Kansas State Capitol on March 28.

The petition calls on Kansas Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly to take immediate action against what Catholic leaders describe as a direct attack on their faith.

“This is not merely an exercise of free speech,” said CatholicVote Vice President Joshua Mercer in a message announcing the petition. “This is about mocking the core of our beliefs and values in a deliberate and horrifying act of sacrilege.”

The slated event was originally set to take place inside the Capitol but was moved outside following public backlash. However, CatholicVote and other Catholic leaders insist that relocating the ritual is not enough – it must be stopped altogether.

As CatholicVote previously reported, a spokesman for the Catholic bishops of Kansas called the proposed satanic event a “provocative expression of hatred and anti-Catholic bigotry.”

CatholicVote is urging Catholics and all people of goodwill to take action by signing the petition. “Sacrilege is NOT free speech,” Mercer stated. “We need to show Governor Kelly – and our entire country – that we will not tolerate this attack on our faith.”
