Scripture Reading: Matthew 6:7-15
“When you pray, do not babble like the pagans, who think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them. Your Father knows what you need before you ask him. This is how you should pray: ‘Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name…’ “
Reflection:
On this fifth day of Lent, we are reminded of the power and simplicity of prayer. In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus teaches us that prayer is not about the length of words or a show of eloquence. Rather, it is about coming before God in humility, trusting that He knows our needs even before we speak them. The Lord’s Prayer, which Jesus provides as a model, teaches us to honor God, seek His will, ask for daily provision, and forgive as we have been forgiven.
As we journey through Lent, we are invited to examine our own prayer life. Are we coming before God in sincerity, or are we simply repeating words without reflecting on their true meaning? This is a time to deepen our relationship with God through prayer—not for the sake of doing it, but for the purpose of opening our hearts to Him and listening for His voice.
You don’t know how to pray? Put yourself in the presence of God, and as soon as you have said, ‘Lord, I don’t know how to pray!’ you can be sure you’ve already begun.” -Saint Josemaría Escrivá
Prayer:
Lord,
Thank You for the gift of prayer. Help us to pray with sincerity and humility, knowing that You hear us even before we speak. Teach us to align our hearts with Your will and to forgive others as You have forgiven us. May this season of Lent draw us closer to You, purifying our hearts and deepening our relationship with You.
Grant us the grace to live out the message of the Lord’s Prayer in our daily lives, seeking Your kingdom first and foremost.
Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
Make this Lent the best of your life (Prayer, Fasting, Repent, Almsgiving).
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. -Matthew 5:16
