Hear Pope Francis speak to those gathered to pray for him: ‘Thank you from the bottom of my heart’

CV NEWS FEED // Pope Francis sent a brief audio message March 7 thanking those who have been praying for him since his Feb. 14 hospitalization for bilateral pneumonia.

The message, delivered in Spanish, was played for those gathered to pray the rosary for him in St. Peter’s Square on Friday evening, led by Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime.

Addressing the faithful for the first time since Feb. 12, Pope Francis spoke with great difficulty, his breathing strained throughout the recording.

“I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your prayers for my health from the Square; I accompany you from here,” the Pope said. “May God bless you and the Virgin protect you. Thank you.”

The Vatican reported Thursday morning local time that the Holy Father remains in stable condition and has not had further episodes of respiratory insufficiency since March 3.
