CV NEWS FEED // According to a poll of those who watched President Donald Trump’s Tuesday night address to a joint session of Congress, just over three quarters approved of his speech.
According to a CBS News / YouGov poll released Wednesday morning, 76% of viewers of Trump’s remarks indicated that they approved, compared to only 23% who disapproved.
Furthermore, 63% of the poll’s respondents said that Trump spent “a lot” of time discussing issues they cared about, compared to 28% who said the president devoted “a little” time to issues important to them. Only nine percent stated that Trump spent no time “at all” on such issues.
Per a CNN analysis, issues on which Trump spent a significant time discussing during his speech included the connection between illegal migration and crime, trade and tariffs, and women’s sports.
In total, he spent just under 15 minutes of the over 90-minute-long speech discussing immigration, 14 discussing economic issues, six-and-a-half discussing cultural issues, and five-and-a-half discussing foreign policy.
It is worth noting that a slight majority (51%) of the speech’s viewers were Republicans, per the CBS poll. Twenty-seven percent were independents and only 20% were Democrats. CBS News indicated that this reflected historic trends where “a president’s party draws more of their own partisans.”

Over 70% of respondents said that Trump was “presidential,” “entertaining,” and/or “inspiring” in the speech. Sixty-two percent found the 47th president to be “unifying” while less than half (46%) found him “divisive.”
Seventy-seven percent of poll respondents said they liked Trump’s plan to eliminate “waste in government spending” – which his administration is largely complicated under the new Elon Musk-led initiative, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
The same percentage (77%) liked Trump’s plans for “immigration and the border,” 73% liked his plans for resolving the war between Ukraine and Russia, and 65% liked his tariff policy.
Finally 76% of speech viewers agreed with the decision by House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-LA, to remove Rep. Al Green, D-TX, from the chamber when Green repeatedly interrupted Trump’s speech and waved a cane in the direction of the president.
At the conclusion of his speech, Trump said that “it is our time to take up the righteous cause of American liberty. … This will be our greatest era.”
“With God’s help over the next four years, we are going to lead this nation even higher, and we are going to forge the freest, most advanced, most dynamic and most dominant civilization ever to exist on the face of this Earth,” he added.
