CV NEWS FEED // The Archdiocese of San Francisco is inviting Catholic men and their sons to attend the Called to Lead men’s conference set for March 8 in the Bay Area.
The conference aims to inspire and challenge men through the words of Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone and conference speakers Doug Barry, the host of an EWTN program, and Father Jerome A. Magat, a professor of moral theology and program director for the Master of Divinity at St. Patrick Seminary and University in Menlo Park, California.
Doug Barry, who hosts EWTN’s “Battle Ready,” called for men to attend and prepare themselves for a spiritual fight.
“We need to face the truth, guys,” he said. “We’re in the thicket of spiritual battle, it’s all around us. We need to be prepared for that fight.”
In his video, shared by the Archdiocese, Barry warns men about the enemy.
“The reality of (the fight) is that scripture tells us the devil is a roaring lion who is looking for someone to devour, ruin, and destroy,” he said.
He then reminds men to stand up for those God has put into their care.
“He wants to devour you, your wife, and your children. And he is relentless in this attack,” Barry continued. “We must be relentless in our preparation and perseverance to stand against that attack, not just for ourselves but for those God has entrusted in our care.”
Barry also calls on men to remember their roles.
“We men were built by God to be warriors. We were given the DNA to be a fighter, a protector, a defender,” he said. “Women were given the great gift to bring life into the world and to nurture that life. We men have been given the responsibility, the duty, to protect and defend that life both naturally and spiritually.”
The conference, held at St. Pius Church in Redwood City, California, will teach men how to combat the devil.
“That is what this conference is about,” he said. “We’re going to talk about the spiritual weaponry that we have access to, that God gives us through the Church to be prepared, to be equipped to stand in the thick of this fight.”
