San Jose State volleyball player flees campus due to threats after suing over ‘transgender’ teammate

CV NEWS FEED // The former co-captain of San Jose women’s volleyball team is fleeing campus due to alleged harassment and threats in the fallout from her lawsuit over the participation of a male player on her team.

Outkick reported Feb. 27 that Brooke Slusser decided to finish the second semester of senior year online, and that she stated, “I literally just didn’t feel safe. Anytime I left the house, I felt like people were just like staring at me, I felt like I had to watch my back whenever I was on campus.”

She reported verbal abuse and threats from other students on campus.

Outkick also reported that seven other team members transferred schools once the volleyball season was over.

In November 2024, Slusser joined 11 other female volleyball players in a lawsuit against the Mountain West Conference, which covertly adopted a policy allowing male player Blaire (born Brayden) Fleming to participate in the collegiate volleyball tournaments.

The lawsuit accused the conference of violating Title IX by allowing a man to compete in women’s sports, and sought emergency injunctive relief to forbid Fleming from competing in the final tournament.

However, Judge S. Kato Crews denied the relief Nov. 27, arguing that Title IX policies protect “transgender” players.

Outkick adds that Slusser is also part of women’s sports activist Riley Gaines’ September 2024 lawsuit against the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) since San Jose hid Fleming’s sex from the team in 2023. The students had to share locker rooms and hotel accommodations with the male player.

As CatholicVote previously reported, following President Trump’s Feb. 5 executive order banning men from participating in women’s sports, the Department of Education is investigating San Jose State and two other schools for violating the Title IX rights of female students by allowing men to participate on their sports teams.
