Prayers, peaceful nights continue for Pope Francis

CV NEWS FEED // Pope Francis’ 15th night at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital went peacefully and the 88-year-old pontiff is now resting, according to the Holy See Press Office’s Friday morning update, Vatican News reported.

His care at the hospital began Feb. 14 after he experienced bronchitis. He is now being treated for bilateral pneumonia. In its Rome morning updates this week, the press office has been reporting that the pontiff’s respective preceding nights have been peaceful.

On Thursday evening, according to Vatican News, the press office notified the media that Pope Francis’ clinical condition is again improving. Still, “due to the complexity of the clinical picture, further days of clinical stability are needed to clarify the prognosis,” the article said.

On Thursday, the pontiff underwent respiratory physiotherapy, rested, prayed in the chapel, received the Eucharist, and worked, according to the article.

The March 1 Jubilee Audience has been cancelled, the press office said, according to Vatican News.

Cardinal Baldassare Reina, the vicar general for the Diocese of Rome, led the rosary for the pope Thursday evening at St. Peter’s Square.

Franciscan Foundation for the Holy Land posted on X that it “joins the world in prayer for Pope Francis as he faces serious health challenges.”

“May the Lord grant him strength, comfort and healing,” the post continued. “We entrust him to the care of our Heavenly Father.”

In another post on X, Friars of the Province of Our Lady of Guadalupe encouraged people to pray for the pope’s recuperation.

The Diocese of Galloway, which is in southwestern Scotland, shared visual aids that were designed to help people with learning difficulties pray for the pope.

Archbishop Tadeusz Wojda SAC, president of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, asked that all Polish parishes pray for the pope during both the prayer of the faithful and the prayer after Holy Communion, according to an X post.
