Amarillo Catholic priest pepper sprayed in the confessional 

CV NEWS FEED // An individual “dealing with mental health issues” pepper sprayed a Catholic priest from St Mary’s Catholic Cathedral in Amarillo while he was hearing confessions on April 10, according to local reports.

Fr Tony Neusch announced the incident on social media later that evening, stating: “I am okay and do not require medical attention.” The priest further noted that confessions would be suspended, except by appointment, until the Cathedral is able to install security cameras in the building.

“I’m sorry for any inconvenience this may cause,” Fr Neusch wrote in the Facebook post, “but the safety of our confessors and those waiting to receive the Sacrament needs to be preserved.” 

Police are currently investigating the incident.
