Harvard Catholic Center announces new chaplain

CV NEWS FEED // The Harvard Catholic Center recently announced its new undergraduate chaplain, Fr. Nathaniel Sanders of the Archdiocese of Boston.

Sanders graduated from Boston College in 2013 and entered the Dominican Order. He discerned out of the order after several years, and later entered St. John’s Seminary in Boston, Massachusetts. He was ordained a priest in May of 2022.

Sanders succeeds Fr. Patrick J. Fiorillo, who has been the chaplain for the Center since 2018. Fiorillo announced in late January that he had received a new assignment in the Archdiocese.

Fr. William Kelly, a pastor at a local parish, told local publication The Harvard Crimson that Sanders “just has a background that matches some of the work that we will be doing here.”

“You do need somebody who at least has a passing interest in music, and he has more than that,” Kelly noted.

Sanders also brings a teaching background to the Center. Before entering seminary, Sanders spent one year in France teaching at a Catholic college boarding school.

Sanders also hosts a YouTube channel called “Rants and Chants” with over 4,000 followers, where he discusses topics such as the Liturgy and theological questions.

The Crimson noted that Fr. Kelly said Sanders’ unique strengths in academics, music, and theology will be essential in his role as chaplain.

President of the Center Azul M. Rubio, class of 2025, told The Crimson, “I am very excited also to welcome Father Nate Sanders… I know that he comes with his full heart into this, and definitely he’s ready to serve the student community here at Harvard.”
