CV NEWSFEED // A prolife Colorado nurse has partnered with attorneys at Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) to defend women’s right to seek after abortion pill reversal treatment.
According to a March 22 news release, ADF attorneys filed a motion on March 20 to allow licensed nurse practitioner and certified nurse midwife Chelsea Mynyk to intervene in an ongoing lawsuit, Bella Health and Wellness v. Weiser, in defense of providing women the opportunity to obtain an abortion pill reversal.
Colorado state legislators enacted a law in April 2023, prohibiting medical professionals from providing access to the abortion pill reversal, which ADF described as “a safe and effective treatment for women who change their minds about abortion.” The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty subsequently filed a lawsuit on behalf of Bella Health and Wellness, a prolife pregnancy health center, which secured a preliminary injunction for the center while the lawsuit is ongoing.
The release noted that Mynyk, who runs her own clinic called Castle Rock Women’s Health, recently received notice of an investigation from the Colorado State Board of Nursing. The Board’s letter informed her that she is being investigated for allegedly violating the Nurses Practice Act, due to an anonymous complaint that she had provided the abortion pill reversal without authorization.
Mynyk’s attorneys expressed in the motion to intervene that Mynyk feels “religiously compelled” to provide the abortion pill reversal to her patients.
“As a practicing Christian, Mrs. Mynyk believes that all human life is sacred from conception to natural death,” the motion stated, adding that Mynyk has not ceased to provide abortion pill reversal treatment since the law went into effect out of concern for her patients’ and their babies’ lives.
Mynyk is seeking to intervene in the case on the grounds that the state’s abortion pill reversal ban and The Board’s pending investigation infringe upon her First and Fourteenth Amendment rights.
According to the court documents, neither the Plaintiffs nor the Defendants in the case have expressed opposition towards the motion.
