Hungary Condemns Jihadist Kidnappings of Young Girls in Northern Nigeria, Commits Help

CV NEWS FEED // The government of Hungary issued an official response to the kidnapping of 287 grade school children by gunmen in north western Nigeria this week by Boko Haram, an Islamic militant group.

In the midst of the silence of most Western nations to the kidnapping, Hungary’s State Secretary for the Aid of Persecuted Christians Tristan Azbej, recently spoke out against the attacks in posts across social media platforms.

“We condemn the terrorist attack by Boko Haram, which kidnapped hundreds of Nigerian women and girls and we extend our deepest sympathy to the abductors and their families,” Azbej wrote in a Facebook post over the weekend.

I condemn the recent terrorist attacks committed by Boko Haram involving the kidnapping of hundreds of Nigerian women and girls. Hungary provides humanitarian aid to the victims of terrorism in West Africa and the Sahel through the @HungaryHelps Program. https://t.co/0t0qquZyy8

The most recent attack is “the second mass abduction in [Nigeria] in less than a week,” according to a Guardian report, which noted that just days earlier, extremists abducted more than 200 women and children in north eastern Nigeria.

According to a Budapest Times report, the Hungarian government has “devoted special attention to providing humanitarian assistance to the people of Nigeria as well as those living in refugee camps there.”

Through its Hungary Helps program, the country’s government has successfully provided humanitarian aid to refugees in the Catholic Diocese of Makurdi, the capital city of the Benue State.

The program has also supported medical missions in the southern port city of Onitsha, and access to clean drinking water in Obodoukwu, a suburban town located in the southern Imo State, the report noted.
