CV NEWS FEED // Many prominent Catholics took to X (formerly Twitter) Thursday to slam President Joe Biden after he delivered his final State of the Union Address before facing voters in November.
The president spent a significant amount of time during the first part of his speech discussing his support of creating federal “rights” to abortion and in-vitro fertilization (IVF).
A Gallup poll from last month asked respondents what they thought was “the most important problem” facing the country today. Twenty-eight percent of respondents – the largest proportion – said it was “immigration.” This was up eight points from the previous month’s poll.
Twenty percent said “government” was the most important problem, compared with 12% who said the economy in general and 11% who indicated that it was inflation.
Only 3% of the poll’s respondents identified “foreign policy” as the most pressing issue. Despite this, Biden heavily focused on Putin’s Russia at the beginning of and throughout his speech.
Meanwhile, he did not speak about the intensifying crisis at the nation’s southern border until well into the speech. Even then, he used it as an opportunity to bash congressional Republicans and announce his support for a defeated, mostly Democratic-supported bill that would have allocated three times more money toward the Ukrainian war effort than toward U.S. border security.
Biden only mentioned the murder of Laken Riley after he was pressed by a Republican congresswoman. In doing so, he mispronounced the victim’s name.
Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott called the president’s border policies the “OPPOSITE of secure.”
“We will not stand for this,” Abbott said. “Texas will continue to hold the line to secure the border.”
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-LA, blasted Biden’s economy, which the president had claimed was a “record.”
“Prices are up 17.1% since Biden took office,” Scalise wrote. “Inflation hit a 40 year high. Families are paying more at the pump and for just about everything. These are the consequences of the Biden agenda.”
The Daily Wire host Matt Walsh called attention to the topics Biden chose to prioritize.
“Biden slurs and stutters while beginning his speech with Ukraine, January 6th, and abortion,” Walsh wrote. “Hyper focused on issues that only matter to the far left. This speech is a gift to Donald Trump.”
In a later post, Walsh called the speech “the angriest State of the Union I’ve ever heard in my life.”
Walsh’s wife Alissa took issue with the self-professed Catholic president’s stances on various issues of human life.
“Listening to President Biden go against the Catholic Church’s teachings, he needs to be excommunicated!” she exclaimed.
Live Action Foundress Lila Rose wrote that Biden was “lying” about Kate Cox, a woman who sued Texas over abortion. Cox was First Lady Jill Biden’s guest at the Thursday night speech.
“Kate Cox’s life wasn’t at risk,” Rose indicated. “Kate Cox demanded a late term abortion of her disabled baby girl, and she left Texas to ensure her daughter’s death.”
“No one should have the ‘freedom’ to murder a baby,” Rose added.
Students For Life President Kristan Hawkins fact-checked the president’s claims about last month’s landmark Alabama Supreme Court ruling on IVF.
“Despite Joe Biden’s lies” and “despite media rhetoric,” the “Alabama decision doesn’t outlaw IVF,” she wrote. “Instead, the IVF clinics can continue to operate but with further accountability to treat embryonic children as human beings, and not to be discarded or carelessly handled like waste.”
“Catholic Joe Biden should extend his love for the preborn conceived in IVF to all others conceived,” Hawkins noted in a subsequent post. “Why do you pick and choose who lives and who dies?”
Later on, Hawkins called out the president on his Department of Justice’s (DOJ) targeting of Catholics, as seen through both the FBI Richmond memo and a string of Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act indictments.
“You’re not about revenge Joe Biden? Tell that to the traditional Catholics, pro-life volunteers, and families you’ve targeted during your reign of terror,” she wrote.
Catholic radio host Patrick Madrid called it “nauseating to witness the shameful spectacle of an ostensibly *Catholic president publicly champion the Antichrist abortion agenda.”
FOX News hostess Laura Ingraham simply asked, “I thought Joe Biden was a Catholic?”
CatholicVote Political Director Logan Church wrote, “Joe Biden wants to talk about the chaos that’s come as a result of the Dobbs decision?”
“How about he starts by acknowledging the brutal violence his radical supporters have committed against the Catholic Church,” she added.

Former Trump advisor Steve Cortes corrected Biden after he mispronounced Laken Riley’s name. “Say her name right,” he chided the president.
“Joe Biden opened the border and Lincoln Riley was murdered in cold blood by an illegal alien,” Cortes wrote minutes later. “He doesn’t even know what her name is. This man is a disgrace.”
Republican National Committee Spokeswoman Madison Gesiotto Gilbert seemed to agree.
“Biden just compared the gruesome, horrific and PREVENTABLE death of this young woman to the death of his own children,” she wrote.
FOX & Friends Weekend Co-Hostess Rachel Campos-Duffy slammed Biden on his administration’s so-called “green” agenda:
Of all the lies, Joe Biden claiming to be “protecting small family farms” is definitely one of the biggest. He & his green fanatics declared war on ranchers & farmers- vilifying them (& their cows) as climate terrorists. To appease Big Food & the sociopathic neo feudalists at the WEF, Biden is regulating American farmers & ranchers out of business!
Finally, Fr. Thomas Petri, OP, wrote that Biden’s pro-abortion position “puts his soul in real jeopardy.”
“It’s remarkable that a Catholic president of the United States can openly say he is pro-abortion and actively work to secure abortion access in the country, and yet there is no obvious consequence for his communion with the Church of Jesus Christ,” Petri wrote.
“That he could say parents should be able to abort children with disabilities and still present himself as a faithful Catholic is scandalous,” the priest added. “I pray his pastor(s) are addressing this with him, and seeking his conversion.”
