Religious Freedom Organization Calls Christians to Oppose U.S. Dept. of State’s ‘Equity’ in Foreign Policy

CV NEWS FEED // A religious freedom advocacy organization is calling for Christians to oppose two new U.S. Department of State rules that promote “inclusivity,” including LGBT lifestyles.

Save the Persecuted Christians reported on March 1 that the Department of State recently proposed two new rules that would add nondiscrimination requirements to foreign assistance regulations.

The first nondiscrimination policy would apply to award recipients or subrecipients, while the second would apply to contractors and subcontractors.

“Establishing clear and meaningful nondiscrimination protections in Department foreign assistance awards advances U.S. foreign policy by ensuring that U.S. foreign assistance is inclusive and equitable by reaching all intended beneficiaries and efficiently accomplishing its intended objectives,” the first policy states.

It also adds that the nondiscrimination policy“is particularly important in countries where stigma and discrimination toward certain groups is tolerated or officially endorsed by the government.”

The term “discrimination” is not expressly defined in the proposed rules, which could potentially impact Christians or other religions who cannot condone LGBT lifestyles.

The two propositions are currently accepting public comments until March 19. Save the Persecuted Christians is now calling for Christians to submit comments opposing the policies.

The Department of State has focused on inclusivity prior to the two proposed rules, as evidenced by its Equity Action Plan from last year. The plan focuses on specific areas, including “pursuing diplomatic efforts to combat hate and protect inclusive democracy,” as well as promoting racial and gender equity, LGBT lifestyles, and “programming respect for international disability rights.”
