CV NEWS FEED // Pope Francis announced his prayer intentions for April in a video message, praying that new technologies will respect human dignity.
“Let us pray that the use of the new technologies will not replace human relationships, will respect the dignity of the person, and will help us face the crises of our times,” the Pope said, according to a translation provided by the Vatican.
The Pope began his message saying that he wished that people would spend more time looking at each other rather than at screens.
“Something’s wrong if we spend more time on our cell phones than with people,” the Pope said. “The screen makes us forget that there are real people behind it who breathe, laugh, and cry.”
He added that while technology is a fruit of the gift of human intelligence, it must be used well. He encouraged using technology to unite people and help those who are in need.
“It’s when we look at each other in the eyes that we discover what really matters,” the Pope said, “that we are brothers, sisters, children of the same Father.”
