CV NEWS FEED // A new film chronicling the life of Blessed Carlo Acutis is heading to theaters, offering audiences a compelling look at a teenager’s path to sainthood — and a timely reflection on how to live faithfully in a tech-dominated world.
“Carlo Acutis: Roadmap to Reality” will be in 1,000 theaters across the United States from April 27 to 29, coinciding with Bl. Carlo’s upcoming canonization April 27, according to a press release from Castletown Media.
A collaborative production from Castletown Media and Wahl St. Productions, the film was created in association with the National Eucharistic Congress and the McGrath Institute for Church Life at the University of Notre Dame. It traces Carlo’s spiritual journey and lasting influence, while also exploring how digital culture affects our understanding of what it means to be human.
According to the press release, the documentary follows a group of American high school students who embark on a two-week pilgrimage from North Dakota to Italy to visit Carlo’s resting place.
In a countercultural move, the students are asked to leave their phones behind for the journey. Their digital fast underscores the film’s central theme: the need for young people to rediscover what is real, true, and human in an age of screens.
“Many young people feel isolated, anxious and unsure of what’s real in a world saturated with screens,” the press release stated. “Amid their struggle, they need hope. They need a living example of how to live with purpose, clarity and joy. Roadmap to Reality offers that through the model of Carlo Acutis.”
The film also includes interviews with Carlo’s family and friends, along with commentary from Catholic leaders and technology experts.
Carlo Acutis, who died in 2006 at age 15, is widely known for his devotion to the Eucharist and his use of technology to evangelize. He was beatified in 2020.
