Los Angeles archdiocese launches daily Lenten reflections inspired by famous French Carmelite

CV NEWS FEED // This Lent, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles is releasing a new series of daily digital reflections titled “God is With Us,” inspired by the wisdom of the Discalced Carmelite Brother Lawrence.

Inspired by the writings of the 17th-century French Carmelite, the daily reflections will “lead [the] faithful in recalling the presence of God in their daily lives,” according to a press release from the Archdiocese.

Brother Lawrence, born Nicolas Herman in 1614 in Lorraine, France, was a Discalced Carmelite known for his simple yet profound spirituality. After a military career cut short by injury, he dedicated his life to God, entering religious life in Paris as a lay brother.

He spent years struggling with spiritual darkness before embracing a life of total surrender to God’s presence in every moment. His teachings, later compiled into “The Practice of the Presence of God,” have become a spiritual classic.

Reflections based on this work will be shared daily throughout Lent on the archdiocese’s social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, and X.
