FBI launches probe into James Comey for alleged ‘honeypot’ operation against Trump 2016 campaign

CV NEWS FEED // The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is investigating allegations that the agency, under former Director James Comey, attempted to infiltrate the 2016 Trump campaign using agents in a covert “honeypot” operation.

As The Washington Times first reported Wednesday, a whistleblower told the House Judiciary Committee last year that two female FBI agents were planted in Trump’s 2015 campaign as “honeypots” – spies tasked with acting romantically interested in targeted individuals in order to extract information.

According to the whistleblower, an FBI employee, Comey “personally directed” the secret operation shortly after Trump announced his candidacy. The operation was allegedly conducted “off-the-books,” with agents ordered to maintain absolute secrecy.

However, the operation was allegedly shut down after a media outlet obtained a photo of one of the agents and prepared to release it.

In an interview with MSNBC, just before President Donald Trump was elected to his second term, Comey urged voters to back former President Joe Biden.

“I don’t care about how you feel about Joe Biden. You must vote for him because the consequences on the other side are too severe,” Comey said in the video posted to X

The FBI, now led by Director Kash Patel, is working to identify those involved in the alleged operation.
Patel was sworn in last week. As CatholicVote reported, “Shortly after his confirmation, Patel vowed to end what he called the ‘politicalization of our justice system’ and rebuild public trust in the Bureau.”
