CV NEWS FEED // Several graduates from the University of Georgia have decided to spend multiple years doing missionary work, especially after their own campus Catholic Center helped them deepen their faith lives.
Four graduates will be joining the Fellowship of Catholic University Students, or FOCUS, to serve and share the Gospel on college campuses across the United States, according to a June 4 article by journalist Andrew Nelson in the Georgia Bulletin.
Nelson also reported that three graduates are joining Damascus, a missionary organization that travels across the U.S. offering retreats and summer camps. Three more graduates are joining LifeTeen, a youth ministry that hosts summer camps and offers Catholic resources for teenagers.
Ethan Dawidowicz is a graduate who has made a three year commitment to be a FOCUS missionary.
“As a freshman on the Athens campus, he expected to be a Mass-on-Sunday student,” wrote Nelson. “But once there, he was drawn into community life by fellow students and chaplains at the Catholic Center.”
Dawidowicz decided for certain to become a missionary after spending time at a FOCUS summer project in Wyoming.
According to Nelson, Dawidowicz said of his upcoming time as a missionary, “I’ll be living with seven to 10 other guy missionaries, and so I think I’m really excited, looking forward to the fellowship with the other guys because we’ll be eating together, we’ll be praying together and we’ll be co-leading Bible studies together.”
Johnny Ede is a graduate who is joining LifeTeen. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business management, and during his time at University of Georgia, he said the Catholic Center offered him spiritual resources and a community of friends.
Ede has already spent two summers with LifeTeen, according to Nelson, who also wrote that Ede considered joining the military or starting his career.
Nelson continued, “however he felt a desire to work with young people, so he opted to explore faith as a missionary.”
Ede said, according to Nelson, “There’s a lot of unknowns and perhaps even fears, but I think with the Lord, it changes from bad fears in irrational things to good fears and excitement and anticipation.”
