Ten CUA students enter the Catholic Church during Easter Vigil

CV NEWS FEED // Ten students at the Catholic University of America entered the Catholic Church during last week’s Easter Vigil Mass.

According to an April 5 news release from the University, ten students received the sacraments of First Holy Communion, Confirmation, and Baptism at St Anthony’s Catholic Church in Brookland on March 30.

The catechumens participated in a weekly Sunday program called the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA).

One student, Sara Carrigan, described her conversion experience, saying: “The decision was never in my hands—God wanted me to be with Him through the Church.” Carrigan was baptized, received her first Communion, and confirmation during the Mass.

“The preparation classes featured guest speakers and taught the students about Catholic Rites and what it meant to be Baptized, receive First Communion, and be Confirmed,” the release stated.

“Working with students along the whole journey to the point of their rebirth or their first Holy Communion has deepened my sense of priestly fatherhood and filled me with gratitude for God’s amazing grace,” said Fr Bernard Knapke, O.P., who led the students through the program.

“This Easter has been the high point of my first year as a chaplain on this campus,” he added.
