USCCB Launches ‘Love Means More’ Campaign

CV NEWS FEED // The United States Council of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) recently launched a new campaign to help people understand what love is in light of today’s culture.

“Conversations about love, marriage, sexuality, family, and the human person can be confusing and polarizing,” Bishop Robert Barron said, according to a USCCB press release. “This is why I am pleased to announce the launch of Love Means More to help bring clarity and compassion to those questions.”

The Love Means More campaign is centered around a website that guides readers through a series of questions and answers, beginning with “what is love?” and ending with more specific questions about topics such as unity, relationships, and divorce.

The initiative is spearheaded by the USCCB Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life, and Youth, of which Barron is chairman.

“[C]ultural narratives tell us love is mostly about feeling good. True love is deeper than that, calling us to follow Christ’s example of sacrificial love so we can live in union with Him forever,” Barron said.

Love Means More renews the USCCB’s 2011 initiative Marriage: Unique for a Reason. The original campaign provided clarity and information about Christ’s design for marriage and family, while Love Means More additionally addresses human sexuality, the LGBT narrative that “love is love,” and “transgenderism.”

“The initiative has also heard, and seeks to address, questions and concerns received from people who are uncomfortable with some Church teachings. These include those who uphold the possibility of divorce and remarriage, LGBT-identifying individuals, and those who defend pornography,” the USCCB stated.

The website is designed to easily provide information and answers to people from all backgrounds, not just Catholics. The initiative is still ongoing, meaning that the USCCB will continue to add more content to the website as “a valuable resource for engaging in cultural conversation about love.”
