CV NEWS FEED // In the wake of a raucous LGBTQ gathering that took place last week inside St. Patrick’s Cathedral, CatholicVote is calling on New York officials to prosecute the unruly “transgender” activists involved.
CatholicVote President Brian Burch sent letters to New York State Attorney General Letitia James and New York County District Attorney Alvin Bragg urging them to prosecute the activists who stormed the historic Manhattan cathedral. Both James and Bragg are Democrats.
“The outrageous sacrilege perpetrated at St. Patrick’s Cathedral is indeed a hate crime,” Burch wrote. “[T]he pastor of St. Patrick’s has confirmed that they were not told the nature and purpose of the offensive stunt that was planned.”
In announcing his letters to the New York officials, Burch explained that in New York, “criminal trespass based on a religion or religious practice is a hate crime.”
“Will law enforcement officials act?” Burch asked. “They mocked our saints. They mocked our prayers. They danced in the aisles and desecrated a cathedral that was paid for with the contributions of thousands of poor, faithful Catholic immigrants.”
“They also lied and misled church officials about what they had planned,” he pointed out:
Trans activists told the New York Times they kept their true intentions “under wraps.” And in a separate video in advance of the service, the service organizer bragged and laughed about how they had deceived the church.

“We urge you to act quickly and resolutely to address this grave injustice, the very sort of vicious abuse that New York’s Hate Crimes Act was designed to prevent,” Burch wrote to James and Bragg:
On behalf of millions of Catholics nationwide, we are asking for your help to vindicate the rights and dignity of Catholic New Yorkers, and indeed, the countless Catholics throughout this nation who regard St. Patrick’s as one of their most revered holy places.

In both letters, Burch referred to the legal precedent set by the 1974 New York City Criminal Court case People v. Segal.
“New York’s courts have recognized that those who gain access to property by deception are liable for criminal trespass,” he stated, citing the ruling.
In People v. Segal, Judge M. Marvin Berger held:
The issue in this case is whether the defendants, who gained access to the [CBS] television studios on West 57th Street, by deception … violated section 140.10 of the Penal Law of this state, which forbids knowing entry upon, or remaining unlawfully in, a building, or on real property fenced or enclosed to exclude intruders.

At page 341 of the McKinney edition of the Penal Law, the authors of the Practice Commentary, Richard G. Denzer and Peter J. McQuilland, note:
“Of course, a person who gains admittance to premises through intimidation or by deception, trink or artifice, does not enter with ‘license or privilege’.”
The defendants in the case were convicted for violating the Penal Law.

On a Tuesday episode of his Sirius XM show, New York Archbishop Cardinal Timothy Dolan defended St. Patrick’s administrators’ handling of the “funeral.”
“We had absolutely no idea about this,” Dolan said.
The cardinal stated that no one with the cathedral knew “the background” of Cecilia Gentili – the deceased “transgender” activist, who was an atheist.
“We don’t do FBI checks on people who want to be buried,” he added.

From CatholicVote’s original report:
Ceyenne Doroshow organized the funeral and said he did not mention Gentili’s “transgender” identity when he planned the funeral with the church.
“I kind of kept it under wraps,” Doroshow said, according to the Times. Doroshow explained that Gentili’s friends “had wanted the service to be at St. Patrick’s because ‘it is an icon, just like her.’”
