A Spanish father is praising the protection of the Sacred Heart of Jesus — whom his family has been cultivating a special devotion to on the first Friday of every month — after he and his family survived a horrific car wreck with no injuries.
“For our family, what happened was a confirmation that our trust was well placed. The Sacred Heart of Jesus had protected us,” José María Mayoral told ACI Prensa in early February.
Mayoral said the accident occurred “in a matter of seconds” on Jan. 27, when he, his wife, and their four children were together in the car and he lost control of the wheel.
The car crashed into the median and then into a guardrail, sending the car into a flip.
But after the forceful contact with the ground followed, the family found that they were completely unharmed, according to the father.
Mayoral said his family had been given “a second chance at life.”
Several truck drivers and families who saw the crash came to their aid, and all of them agreed that the lack of injury was a miracle, Mayoral explained.
Mayoral added that the whole family has a devotion to the Sacred Heart. Ever since their courtship, he and his now-wife have been receiving the Eucharist on the first Friday of the month, which is part of the observance of a devotion Jesus asked of Saint Margaret Mary Alocoque at the end of the 17th century.
Mayoral said his first daughter was born on the Feast of the Sacred Heart and that all of their children have the Sacred Heart of Jesus in their baptismal names. He also told ACI Prensa that his youngest child was baptized two days before the accident. In recent days, Mayoral had been sharing holy cards of the Sacred Heart and encouraging people to make reparation for offenses against the Lord’s Sacred Heart.
Mayoral also said “it was no coincidence” a holy card of the Sacred Heart was in the car at the time of the wreck. After the wreck, Mayoral shared similar holy cards with the officers who responded to the scene and the taxi driver who drove them from the scene.
Mayoral told the outlet that surviving the wreck has deepened his conviction to continue spreading devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, desiring to witness to the reality “that, even in the midst of danger, His love is the safest refuge.”
