Saint Polycarp was one of the greatest saints of the early Church and a direct disciple of Saint John the Apostle. As Bishop of Smyrna in the 2nd century, he faithfully preserved the teachings handed down from the Apostles at a time when Christians faced persecution and false doctrines.
When ordered to deny Christ, Polycarp courageously refused, declaring that he had served Christ all his life and could not betray Him. He was condemned to death and offered his life as a witness of unwavering faith and love for Jesus. His martyrdom strengthened the early Christian community and remains a powerful example of fidelity unto death.
Saint Polycarp reminds us that true faith is not only believed but lived with courage, even in the face of suffering.
