Saint of the Day: Saint Claude de la Colombière

Saint Claude de la Colombière (1641–1682) was a French Jesuit priest best known as the spiritual director of Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque and a great apostle of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Through his wisdom, humility, and obedience, he helped confirm and spread devotion to the Sacred Heart at a time when it faced skepticism and opposition.

Despite fragile health, Saint Claude served faithfully as a preacher, confessor, and missionary, even suffering imprisonment for the faith while in England. He accepted suffering with patience and deep trust in God, offering his life completely to Christ.

Saint Claude is remembered for his loyalty to the Church, clarity of faith, and total confidence in the love and mercy of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Did You Know?

Saint Claude de la Colombière was officially declared the “faithful servant and perfect friend of the Sacred Heart” because of his role in promoting this devotion throughout the Church.
