As tens of thousands come to Washington, D.C., for the March for Life this week, Belmont Abbey College and Christ Medicus Foundation will host an event to showcase how health care can help build a culture of life.
Titled “Winning a Pro-Life America: A Concrete Vision for the Culture of Life Event,” the panel will take place after the March for Life rally on Jan. 23 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Belmont House, according to an emailed press release from Sophia Communications.
Emmett McGroarty, executive director of the Belmont House in Washington, D.C., will offer introductory remarks. In a Jan. 20 email interview with CatholicVote, McGroarty said that Belmont Abbey is proud to be cosponsoring the event.
“Our Declaration of Independence maintains the right to life is unalienable, and events such as this — and the March for Life — call our nation to reaffirm this founding principle,” he said. “As we approach the 250th anniversary of our declaration and our nation, it is fitting that we continue to uphold and defend this right.”
Panelists include Tom McClusky, director of government affairs for CatholicVote; Margaret DeMaioribus, chief of staff of CatholicVote; Louis Brown, executive director of Christ Medicus Foundation; Andrew Kubick, senior research fellow for public policy at the Catholic Health Care Leadership Alliance; and Lauren Castillo, chief mission and revenue officer of Bella Health and Wellness.
In addition to the main theme of health care, speakers will discuss the status of the pro-life movement and share “a vision for achieving a fully pro-life America,” according to the release. They will also discuss the need for prayer and work to achieve the civilizational love and justice needed to protect all life from conception until natural death.
According to the release, the Belmont House’s mission is “to restore civil society and reclaim the rights of people of faith in the public square.” It aims to bring together government officials, policy experts, Catholic ecclesiastical leaders, and people of faith from around the world.
