Meditation & Reflection
On this ninth and final day, we contemplate the triumph of faith that St. Sebastian embodied. Pierced by arrows and abandoned, he did not despair — he was healed by divine providence and returned to proclaim Christ boldly, even facing a second, fatal martyrdom by clubbing. His life teaches us that suffering, when united to Christ’s Passion, becomes a path to resurrection and eternal victory.
As we face our own “arrows” — illness, persecution, doubt, physical or spiritual wounds — St. Sebastian reminds us that God often allows trials to purify and strengthen us. The pain does not have the final word; fidelity does. In enduring with love, we become witnesses like him, drawing others to the faith through our resilience.
Today, reflect: How has this novena helped you grow in courage? What “arrows” in your life can you now offer to God, trusting that He will bring healing and fruit from them? Let St. Sebastian inspire you to persevere to the end, knowing that the crown of martyrdom (or faithful endurance) awaits those who remain steadfast.
Scriptural Reflection
(From Psalm 22:15-19, echoing the suffering Christ and martyr)
“My mouth is dry as earthenware, my tongue sticks to my jaw. You lay me down in the dust of death. A pack of dogs surrounds me, a gang of villains closing in on me… But you, O Lord, do not be far away; my strength, come quickly to my help!”
Pray Day 9
Let us begin, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Glorious Sebastian, martyr and saint, I call on your strength and courage to help me through this difficult trial. Your faith was so deep, a multitude of arrows could not finish you.
The piercing wounds inflicted for your faith only proved to strengthen your belief. May you intercede for those who are weakened from the effects of disease. I ask for your intercession that I may also survive that which threatens to destroy my beliefs in the mercy of Christ. Amen.
(Mention your request here…)
St. Sebastian, pray for us.
Fearless martyr, intercede for us!
Say 1: Our Father… Say 1: Hail Mary… Say 1: Glory Be…
