Michael Bublé speaks at Vatican press conference before  singing for Concert with the Poor

Singer Michael Bublé appeared at the Vatican on Friday to discuss his upcoming performance at the Concert with the Poor, an annual event dedicated to welcoming and honoring people facing hardship. The press conference, held at the Holy See Press Office, introduced the sixth edition of the concert and outlined what audiences can expect this weekend.

Joining Bublé were Monsignor Marco Frisina, director of the Choir of the Diocese of Rome, and Italian performer Serena Autieri. The Vatican livestreamed the briefing on its Vatican News YouTube channel, offering simultaneous translation in Italian and English.

This year’s concert will take place Dec. 6 in the Paul VI Hall, and 8,000 people are expected to attend. Three thousand  of them are guests from disadvantaged backgrounds, who attend as the event’s central and honored participants. The Vatican describes the evening as one that “brings together music, fraternity and solidarity.”

In a statement, Bublé said he is performing in the Vatican for the very first time, calling it a meaningful opportunity to support an event rooted in compassion. He will sing with the Nova Opera Orchestra and the 200-voice Choir of the Diocese of Rome, a collaboration his team says will help create “an extraordinary night.”
