The St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology, founded by Dr. Scott Hahn and based in Steubenville, Ohio, is in the midst of a national Scripture initiative it believes is the largest group Bible study in the United States.
The seven-week program, Bible Across America, began Nov. 5 and aims to mobilize thousands of Catholics to study Scripture simultaneously in homes, parishes, and small groups across the country.
The St. Paul Center is partnering with several Catholic organizations, including Hallow, FOCUS, and Mount St. Mary’s University, to broaden the study’s reach.
The Center attributes the “largest” designation to the study’s coordination of thousands of participants engaging simultaneously across the country.
Hosted by Shane Owens and featuring well-known Catholic speakers, including Father Boniface Hicks, Alex Jones, Katie McGrady, and Heather Khym, the series will air weekly at 7:30 p.m. ET on Wednesdays.
The theme of this year’s study focuses on understanding Jesus as “Teacher and Lord” (Jn 13:13), with each week dedicated to a core Gospel moment:
- The Infancy Narratives
- Christ’s exorcisms
- The Sermon on the Mount
- The healing of the synagogue ruler’s daughter
- Martha and Mary
- The Lost Sheep (Luke 15)
- The Transfiguration
Participants are encouraged to launch their own Bible Across America groups and to accompany one another in encountering Christ in Scripture.
A promotional message from the St. Paul Center speaks to what they view as a growing national interest in biblical spirituality: “The popularity of shows like The Chosen, the skyrocketing of Bible sales, and the resurgence of interest in studying Scripture tell us one thing: People today are hungry to encounter Jesus in Scripture.”
The center has also released episodes of the series on YouTube, encouraging viewers to join the remaining live sessions on its digital platform for free.
