Saint of the Day: Saint Catherine Labouré

Saint Catherine Labouré

Virgin & Visionary of the Miraculous Medal (1806–1876)

Saint Catherine Labouré was a humble Daughter of Charity in Paris, France, chosen by God for an extraordinary mission. In 1830, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to her several times in the motherhouse chapel on Rue du Bac. During these apparitions, Our Lady revealed to Catherine the design of what would become the Miraculous Medal, promising that great graces would be given to all who wear it with faith.

Although she received one of the most important Marian messages in modern history, Catherine lived her entire life quietly—serving the elderly, working in the convent kitchen, and never revealing her identity as the visionary until just before her death. Her holiness came from her humility, obedience, and deep love for Mary and the poor.

Today, the Miraculous Medal is worn by millions worldwide, a sign of Mary’s protection, intercession, and motherly love.

Prayer

Saint Catherine Labouré, you who listened with faith to the voice of the Blessed Mother, help us to trust God’s guidance in our lives. May the Miraculous Medal draw us closer to Jesus through Mary. Amen.
