Feast Day: October 15
Patronage: Spain, headache sufferers, religious women, and those seeking a deeper prayer life
Biography:
Saint Teresa of Ávila was born in Spain in 1515. From a young age, she desired to give her life completely to God. She entered the Carmelite convent but was saddened by the lack of spiritual discipline she found there. Moved by divine inspiration, she reformed the Carmelite Order, calling her sisters to a deeper life of prayer, humility, and simplicity. Her writings, such as The Interior Castle and The Way of Perfection, became treasures of Christian spirituality and earned her the title of Doctor of the Church. Saint Teresa showed that true holiness comes from friendship with God through contemplative prayer. She died in 1582, filled with peace and joy in the Lord.
Prayer:
O Saint Teresa of Ávila, you who found joy in prayer and strength in God’s love, teach us to seek the Lord with all our hearts. Help us grow in interior peace and trust in His divine will. Amen.
