Dr. George Delgado, the founder of the Abortion Pill Rescue Network (APRN), has written a new book documenting abortion pill reversal’s success in empowering women who regret starting a chemical abortion.
“I wanted to let people know that some women want to reverse their chemical abortions, and we have a safe and effective way for them to attempt that,” Delgado remarked regarding his motivation for writing the book, according to Pregnancy Help News.
Abortion Pill Reversal: A Second Chance at Choice is the fruit of years of work. Delgado founded the APRN in 2012.
Delgado studied mifepristone, the first of two drugs taken in the abortion regimen, and published several peer-reviewed academic articles on its reversal by use of progesterone. Progesterone is effective at preventing abortion pills from causing unborn death, particularly if taken within 24 hours – and, in some cases, more than 72 hours after a mother ingested an abortion pill, according to Pregnancy Help News.
A 2018 peer-reviewed study showed that this treatment is effective in 64%-68% of cases and did not raise the likelihood of birth defects in children, according to Pregnancy Health News.
Over 200 women per month call the APRN for help reversing abortion pills they have taken, which amounts to saving about six unborn lives each day, the outletreported.
Even though many people are alive today because of his work, Delgado and the APRN have faced significant legal pushback. According to Pregnancy Help News, Heartbeat International (APRN’s parent organization) is the subject of two lawsuits brought by state attorneys general related to abortion pill reversal, and Delgado’s own private practice is also in a legal battle with California’s attorney general.
“[Abortion pill reversal] has become a focal point of the pro-life movement and a focus of attack by the Medical-Abortion complex,” Delgado said, according to Pregnancy Help News.
In addition to sharing Delgado’s life story, Abortion Pill Reversal shares testimonies from women whose children were saved, nurses who staff the APRN, and the doctor who performed the first documented reversal of the effects of an abortion pill with progesterone.
Delgado hopes that the book will help people see past media narratives about abortion pill reversal.
“The Medical-Abortion complex has been vehemently opposed to [abortion pill reversal],” Delgado said, according to Pregnancy Help News. “The book is a way for people to read the other side of the story so that they can draw their own conclusions.”
Abortion Pill Reversal: A Second Chance at Choice features a foreword by pro-life activist Lila Rose and is set to be released Oct. 21 by Ignatius Press.
