Doctor of the Church
Patron Saint of: Preachers and those seeking clarity in faith
About St. Peter Chrysologus
Saint Peter Chrysologus lived in the 5th century and served as the Bishop of Ravenna, Italy. His name “Chrysologus” means “Golden Word,” a title given to him because of his eloquent, clear, and powerful preaching. His homilies focused on the mystery of Christ, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the sacraments, often urging the faithful to live with mercy, humility, and faith.
Peter was deeply devoted to Christ and the Church, and his sermons continue to inspire believers today. Because of the depth of his teaching, he was later declared a Doctor of the Church by Pope Benedict XIII in 1729.
