Happy Feast Day of Saints Peter and Paul

Today, June 29, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, two pillars of the Apostolic foundation:

Saint Peter, the “rock” upon whom Christ built His Church (Matthew 16:18), was entrusted with shepherding the flock (John 21:15–17). Though he faltered in weakness, he was restored by Christ and went on to lead the Church in Rome, ultimately giving his life in witness to the Gospel.

Saint Paul, the former persecutor of Christians (Acts 9), encountered the Risen Lord and became the “Apostle to the Gentiles.” His fourteen epistles laid the theological groundwork for Christian living, missionary zeal, and unity in Christ.

Together they symbolize the unity of Jew and Gentile, pastoral care and evangelistic fervor, Peter’s papal ministry and Paul’s missionary outreach. Their joint feast reminds us that the Church endures by the balance of faithful governance and courageous proclamation.

Prayer

O Saints Peter and Paul,
you gave your lives for Christ’s Church:
grant us the faith to stand firm like Peter,
and the courage to proclaim the Gospel like Paul.
Guide our shepherds and missionaries,
that all nations may come to know the truth.
Amen.
