CV NEWS FEED // A day after former President Joe Biden revealed he has advanced prostate cancer, conservatives and Catholic leaders responded with prayers, alongside serious questions about the Biden administration’s lack of transparency.
Scrutiny regarding the timeline of Biden’s diagnosis intensified Monday when a 2022 video resurfaced in which he appeared to say, “I … have cancer.” The clip, widely shared on social media, has fueled growing speculation that the former president’s condition may have been known long before the public announcement.
“I pray for Joe Biden’s health and full recovery,” said CatholicVote Vice President Joshua Mercer Monday. “But this is a larger cover-up than Watergate.”
“How long has Joe Biden had prostate cancer? Did his medical treatments affect his ability to lead the country? Was he even really in control of his presidency?” Mercer asked. “By law, the White House must log all of the president’s visitors. But there were no visitor logs to his Delaware home. Maybe this explains why Biden spent so many days of his presidency in Delaware. Was he receiving medical care in Delaware – while keeping the American people in the dark? Our representatives in Congress need to examine what really happened and hold people accountable.”
Biden, 82, was diagnosed Friday with an aggressive, metastatic form of prostate cancer that has already spread to his bones. His office claims the diagnosis followed recent urinary symptoms, though some experts suggest the cancer likely developed years earlier.
“He did not develop it in the last 100, 200 days. He had it while he was President,” said oncologist Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel on MSNBC Monday. “He probably had it at the start of his presidency, in 2021. I don’t think there’s any disagreement on that.”
Republican Rep. Greg Murphy of North Carolina, a board-certified urologist, voiced similar concerns.
“If you’re diagnosed because of symptoms with prostate cancer, that means it’s already advanced,” Murphy told the Daily Caller. “Nodules don’t pop up in four months. And cancer generally does not appear de novo out of four months also. So it begs the question: was he screened for this or not?”
Scrutiny has intensified following revelations in a new book by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios journalist Alex Thompson. As reported by the Daily Wire, the book “reveals that Biden’s inner circle worked to conceal his physical and cognitive decline at the end of his presidency.”
Vice President JD Vance acknowledged the seriousness of Biden’s condition while calling for honesty about the former president’s ability to govern.
“We wish the best for the former president’s self. It sounds pretty serious, but hopefully he makes the right recovery,” Vance told reporters Monday. “I will say—whether the right time to have this conversation is now or at some point in the future—we really do need to be honest about whether the former president was capable of doing the job.”
“You can separate the desire for him to have the right health outcome with the recognition that… I don’t think he was able to do a good job for the American people,” he continued. “That’s not politics. That’s not because I disagreed with him on policy. That’s because I don’t think that he was in good enough health… We can pray for good health, but also recognize that if you’re not in good enough health to do the job, you shouldn’t be doing the job.”
President Donald Trump also weighed in with a statement of support Sunday.
“Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”
