CV NEWS FEED // President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign recently ordered $50 million in ads targeting former President Donald Trump – the first of which brands the Republican a “convicted felon.”
The 30-second ad titled “Character Matters” begins with a montage of black-and-white photographs of Trump during various recent court proceedings.
“In the courtroom, we see Donald Trump for who he is,” says a male voice actor. “He’s been convicted of 34 felonies, found liable for sexual assault, and he committed financial fraud.”
“Meanwhile, Joe Biden’s been working, lowering healthcare costs and making big corporations pay their fair share,” the voiceover continues as upbeat music begins to play in the background and the scene shifts to footage of the incumbent president.
“This election is between a convicted criminal, who’s only out for himself, and a president who’s fighting for your family,” the ad concludes.
During the words “convicted criminal,” Trump’s viral 2023 mugshot flashes onto the screen.
FOX News reported that the ad “comes ahead of next week’s first presidential debate, which is set for June 27.”

The Biden campaign “said the ad will run on general market television and Connected TV in all battleground states and on national cable,” FOX noted.
FOX indicated that Biden’s $50-million ad buy also “includes a ‘historic’ investment to reach Black, Latino, and Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander voters.” FOX added:
The ad campaign comes after the Biden campaign raised a record $30 million at a star-studded fundraiser in Los Angeles hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. Big names, including former President Obama and Hollywood actors George Clooney and Julia Roberts, were in attendance.
Biden Campaign Communications Director Michael Tyler defended the ad buy, claiming: “Trump approaches the first debate as a convicted felon who continues to prove that he will do anything and harm anyone if it means more power and vengeance for [him].”
“That’s why he was convicted, that’s why he encouraged a violent mob to storm the Capitol on January 6, and it’s why his entire campaign is an exercise in revenge and retribution,” Tyler added, per FOX’s report.

Trump Campaign National Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt fired back at those claims.
“Despite Biden’s failing campaign spending nearly $70 million on media buys, President Trump continues to crush Joe Biden in the polls, leading in every key battleground state and winning independents by double digits,” she said.
Leavitt noted that Biden “is down 20 points with Black voters in Pennsylvania and just needed to be led offstage by Obama in a room full of Hollywood elites.”
“The contrast between President Trump’s strength and success versus Crooked Joe Biden’s weakness, failures, and dishonesty will be made clear on the debate stage next week,” she emphasized.
>> MAY 30: MANHATTAN JURY CONVICTS TRUMP ON 34 COUNTS, TRUMP MAINTAINS INNOCENCE <<
Several users on X (formerly Twitter) hinted that Biden’s ad singling out Trump’s “character” may backfire and embolden supporters of the former president.
“They are trying to paint a picture of Trump as a convicted felon who is evil and bad for America,” one user wrote on the platform. “The truth is they are scared because their plan didn’t work out how they had hoped.”
“Some might argue that [the ad is] only saving Trump money,” he continued. “Even the left-wing liberals are upset cause we won’t get upset if they are calling Trump a felon.”
Another user implied that the ad might be evidence of the Biden campaign avoiding policy issues important to voters.
“Nothing on domestic or foreign policies,” he noted on X.
A New York City court convicted Trump on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records last month.
A chorus of critics from across the political spectrum have denounced this verdict as politically charged lawfare.
The former president has repeatedly maintained his innocence in the face of all his legal battles.
Shortly following the Manhattan jury’s decision to convict Trump on May 30, CatholicVote President Brian Burch stated: “This verdict is a joke.”
Burch pointed to a “biased prosecutor,” the absence of any “underlying crime,” and a felony charge “predicated on a misdemeanor that was never convicted.”
“Make no mistake: This is election interference,” Burch said. “This is the total politicization of our legal system.
