O God,
You who create pure hearts and delight in chastity,
look with kindness on us as we remember young Maria Goretti today. She was only a child, yet she chose You above all else,
defending her innocence with courage even unto death.
Through her example, strengthen us to resist every temptation,
to value purity of body and soul,
and to forgive those who hurt us, just as she forgave her attacker. Dear Saint Maria,
pray for all young people, for families, and for those who suffer violence.
Help us to live with the same simple faith and heroic love you showed.
Intercede for us so that we may remain faithful to God’s commands
and one day rejoice with you in the glory of heaven. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
