Saint of the Day: Saint Bernardine of Siena

On May 20, the Catholic Church honors Saint Bernardine of Siena, a great Franciscan preacher who dedicated his life to spreading devotion to Jesus and renewing the faith of the people.

Born in Italy in 1380, Bernardine was known from a young age for his kindness, prayerful spirit, and care for the sick and poor. He later joined the Franciscan Order and became one of the most powerful preachers of his time.

Saint Bernardine traveled throughout Italy preaching repentance, peace, and love for Christ. Thousands gathered to hear him speak because of his simple words, deep faith, and joyful spirit. He strongly promoted devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus, often displaying the symbol “IHS,” representing the name of Jesus.

Despite illness and many hardships, Bernardine continued preaching tirelessly for the salvation of souls. His life inspired many people to return to God and live more holy lives.

Saint Bernardine reminds us of the power of speaking about Jesus with love, courage, and humility.

Saint Bernardine of Siena, faithful preacher of the Holy Name of Jesus, pray for us, that we may boldly live our Catholic faith and bring the love of Christ to those around us. Amen.
