Saint of the Day: Saint Anselm of Canterbury

Biography
Saint Anselm of Canterbury was born in 1033 in Aosta, in present-day Italy. From a young age, he showed a deep desire to seek God and understand the truths of the faith. After facing difficulties in his early life, he eventually entered the Benedictine monastery of Bec in France, where his wisdom and holiness quickly became known.

Anselm later became Archbishop of Canterbury in England. He was a courageous defender of the Church, especially during conflicts with the king over the freedom of the Church. Despite exile and hardship, he remained faithful to God and steadfast in truth.

He is especially remembered for his deep theological insight and his desire to unite faith and reason. His famous approach was: “faith seeking understanding.” Because of his writings and influence, he was later declared a Doctor of the Church.

Prayer
O Saint Anselm,
you sought to understand the mysteries of God
with a faithful and humble heart.

Help us to grow in both faith and understanding,
to trust in God’s truth,
and to seek Him in all things.

Pray for us, that we may remain faithful
even in trials and difficulties,
and follow Christ with courage and love.

Amen.
