Saint Matthias is the Apostle chosen by the early Church to take the place of Judas Iscariot after the Ascension of Christ. He was selected through prayer and discernment, showing that God Himself calls and appoints those who are to serve His Church.
Though little is recorded about his ministry, Matthias faithfully preached the Gospel and remained devoted to Christ until the end of his life. Tradition holds that he suffered martyrdom for the faith, offering his life as a witness to the Resurrection.
Saint Matthias reminds us that God sees faithfulness even when it is hidden, and that no calling is small when it comes from the Lord.
Did You Know?
Saint Matthias is the only Apostle not directly chosen by Jesus during His earthly ministry, but selected by the Church under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Prayer of the Day
Saint Matthias,
chosen by God to serve among the Apostles,
help us to remain faithful to our calling,
even when our service goes unnoticed.
Teach us to trust in God’s plan
and to follow Christ with perseverance and humility.
Pray for us.
Amen.
